An actor with an illustrious career decides to write, direct, and act in a film that will inevitably bring him closer to his own demise before revealing that his truth may actually be far from what he has become.
Piolo Pascual delivers the performance of his career in a thoughtfully abstract rumination on fame that showcases a great supporting turn from Jasmine Curtis-Smith, sublime visuals from cinematographer Odyssey Flores, and a story from writer-director Paul Soriano that will surely be dissected by cinephiles in the years to come. ”This whole film was executed in a way that felt like it was the same movie Paco wrote and directed, with a cameo of an indie film icon as a pawnshop owner and a killer ending twist to make you rethink everything you've seen. (8/10)
”Real Life Fiction isn’t the typical local film you’d find in movie theaters today, especially given the recent decline in cinema attendance. Screening it on the big screen is, in itself, a bold move.
”The movie is dwelling more on fiction, losing touch of reality. The two sides didn’t have a good blend. You’re more fixated on the film’s concept than the main character’s story. (1.9/5)
”A brooding, thought-provoking, often baffling, highly intriguing, cerebral experience. (2.5/5)
”Real Life Fiction is a frustratingly obtuse film, one that tries hard to maintain its veneer of incomprehensibility to the point that its plot is basically nonsense. (2.5/5)
”It spends so much energy on obfuscating what's real for these characters that it makes it impossible to care about anything that's going on. (2/5)
