In the pre-Spanish era Philippines, a young beautiful native princess falls in love with a handsome Spanish soldier. Against all odds, and pulled apart by their loyalties to their own people, they fight for their clandestine romance.
Overall, 1521 is an informative movie that's a good watch for the students and history enthusiasts. There were some minor choices here and there that might put off some of its audience. (Informative)
”One of the critical aspects viewers are left to think about was the balance between historical accuracy and artistic license. “1521” takes several liberties with historical events, which may enhance the dramatic appeal but can also detract from its authenticity; which was the main reason why it received raised eyebrows from locals.
”It was unfortunate that for the rest of the film, certain aspects of the cinematography and editing, production design, costumes and hair and makeup were haphazard and amateur-looking, making some scenes unintentionally funny. (4/10)
”1521 is a history film that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. (
”The way the story is told is pretty awful. Putting aside its very liberal flaunting of actual historical facts, the movie never really gets across the richness of culture that the characters are supposed to be defending. (0.5/5)
