"Fruitcake" is a comedy-drama following Filipinos of all walks of life in Metro Manila, whose lives intertwine on a fateful LRT ride.
Its stories don't come together in the way that the movie wants them to, and yet in its comedy it creates a different kind of portrait. It just slowly builds this culture of absurdism, finding what's funny in this colonial, Catholic, utterly corrupt country. (3.5/5)
”...it definitely possesses a specific type of humor that won't align with everyone's tastes, but the duo of Joel Ferrer and Miko Livelo manage to do it again at least for me. (3.5/5)
”It's funny, because every time may handang Fruitcake sa bahay namin. I always end up just picking out and eating the good stuff in it, and leaving out yung mga ingredients na di ko bet. Parang ganun din itong Fruitcake movie. Some of its sangkap did just fine, some even great, kaso yung iba naman ay meant to be just a leftover on my plate. (Maganda Kung)
Sobrang sabog at nakakaumay. (0.7/5)
”At the end of the day, the film sets out to make us laugh but my biggest issue is that the movie is trying to say something too and it feels like the film was too busy making us laugh that it forgets to show more scenes that supported its ending message. (2/5)
”Execution talaga ang main problem ng pelikula and the writing, nafocus sila sa pagpatawa and Im getting this vibe na they are trying to replicate Jologs! (1/5)
”It's got a dozen of really good performers, however the film doesn't know what to do with them, which is honestly a crime. (1/5)
”Preachy, reductive (and in some cases insulting) trash that uses the lowest common denominators of comedy to elicit laughs. (C)
