"Ang Tumandok," starring the Atis, indigenous people of Central Panay, portrays a 16-year-old chieftain's daughter's resilient battle for ancestral land, offering a poignant journey into the heart of their struggle and unyielding connection to their home.
Tumandok is neither exploitative nor manipulative, but rather overflowing with compassion for the lives of this ethnic group, who are sadly treated like pests, tourist attractions, and robbed of basic human rights.ย (5/5)
โA landmark achievement in Philippine Cinema, Tumandok is what every film should aspire to be in utilizing all of its elements to give a voice to the voiceless. This must be seen by every Filipino at least once in their lifetime. (A+)
โAll those who doubt that a film wholly performed by indigenous actors can be effective will once for all be silenced by this film. (5/5)
โFar from commercial interests, 'Tumandok' stands out as a bold and impactful political piece.
โIf there is anything that our local film festivals are for, they're for movies like this. (4.5/5)
โTumandok is engaging, awe-inspiring and serves as an awareness of what's happening to our Ati communities - their challenges may it be little or life and death situation. (4.5/5)
โStories like this transcend cinema and criticism, heck, even the entire Cinemalaya festival.
โWith โTumandok,โ Richard Jeroui Salvadico and Arlie Sweet Sumagaysay brilliantly capture the spirit of the indigenous peoplesโ way of life; and juxtaposes it with the maddening bureaucracy and utter indifference of the local government to the IPโs plights. (A)
โThe best aspect of the film is how raw it feels. [...] By keeping everything subdued, the main message shines through, whether you may or may not fully hear the words. โTumandokโ is necessary viewing in the hope that this should never happen again. (4.5/5)
โStories like this makes Cinemalaya relevant, we dont see this on mainstream platform but eto dapat ang pagtuunan natin ng pansin! (4/5)
โTumandok is a tremendous work, testimony and history combined, a film that reaches beyond the four walls of the cinema. (4/5)
โ๐๐ถ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ฐ๐ฌ has the power to move you in ways you canโt say no. If you have the opportunity to help, then grab it. Afterall, this is why cinema exists: to tell stories like ๐๐ถ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ฐ๐ฌ and hopefully to make a positive change in peopleโs lives. (4/5)
โI understand na kaya andun yung pagka dokyu ng pelikula para mas natural or raw nating maramdaman yung impassioned battle nila, but at the same time with this type of story na punong-puno ng hinagpis, pag-ibig at pag-asa hindi ko maiwasang mag-isip na baka siguro mas lalong gumanda pa ang film na ito kung naging higit na cinematic yung approach sa direction. (Maganda Pero)
โBeing non-professional actors, this cast gave the film authenticity and sincerity in its advocacy to shed light on the pressing issues surrounding the Tumandok in reality. (7/10)
โThe film's portrayal of the struggles and resilience of indigenous people is indeed powerful and resonates deeply with audiences. (3.5/5)
โAbsorbing and ultimately heartbreaking. A film made by and for the Atis. (3/5)
